The King’s Toronto data school is currently full, but you may wish to contact us to be added to the waiting list.

The King’s Data School is coming to Toronto.

The University of King’s College is partnering with the Canadian Association of Journalists and the Ryerson University School of Journalism to present a week of Canada’s best data journalism training at the Rogers Communications Centre, from May 7 to 11.

Come to Ryerson to learn the fundamentals of finding, analyzing and telling stories with data. You’ll be taught by two of Canada’s leading experts in the field, Fred Vallance-Jones from King’s and Valerie Ouellet, a national data journalist with the CBC in Toronto.

The King’s Data School has trained journalists from some of Canada’s biggest newsrooms, including the CBC, the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star. Now you can join them. You’ll leave the school with the tools you need to find and tell stories that make a difference.

The Toronto school is part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the King’s Data School, and the 40th anniversary of the Canadian Association of Journalists.

It begins Monday May 7, right after #CAJ18, the CAJ’s 40th anniversary conference at the Hyatt Regency Toronto.

Active CAJ members current to May 7 can take advantage of a special joint rate that offers 10 per cent off the full CAJ conference and the five days of training. This deal is available only until April 26.

King’s data schools fill up quickly and we limit enrollment to 12, so sign up early.

All participants will receive a complimentary copy of the Data Journalist, from Oxford University Press, a $50 value. They’ll also receive a free license to the PDF extraction program Able2Extract, courtesy of Investintech, school sponsor. Find out more about Able2Extract, and what it can do, here.

To sign up, fill out the signup form and send it as an email attachment to kingsdata@ukings.ca. You will need to provide your credit card information but if you prefer, indicate on the form that you would like us to call you to get the information. Once paid, you will have a reserved spot.

The school will take place at the Rogers Communications Centre at 80 Gould St.

If you would like to find out more about joining the CAJ, you can find out here. We also have a frequently asked questions page.

If you can’t make the data school in Toronto, the annual King’s Data Schools are being held in Halifax in late June. You can find out more here.
